"If it had not been D.O, who else would have acted in the role of Han Kangwoo?
EXO’s D.O (Do Kyungsoo) plays the character Han Kangwoo in SBS’s Wednesday-Thurdays drama ‘It’s Okay, It’s Love’. In the beginning, the audience thought that he was just a passionate fan of Jang Jaeyeol (Jo Insung), but D.O brought surprise to all the viewers when it was revealed that he was Jang Jaeyeol’s imaginary self, a hallucination visible only to his own eyes.
‘It’s Okay It’s Love’ is the first drama to showcase D.O’s acting. The movie ‘Cart’ is also scheduled for release in theaters soon, but it was the drama that first showecased his acting before the viewers. He was mainly known as one of the quieter members of EXO, so it became a subject of much curiosity how he would cope in his new acting role.
It turned out, D.O’s acting ability was far greater than what anyone expected. Han Kangwoo was a dark character that still had a bright side in the beginning. D.O showed off many lovely and bright charms of Han Kangwoo, who tried his best to remain positive despite being abused by his stepfather.
When it was revealed that Han Kangwoo was a figment of Jang Jaeyeol’s imagination, the requirement of the role became more demanding, requiring deeper acting which he managed to execute perfectly, with even more chilling effects. In a particular scene, the camera panned on and off from Jang Jaeyeol to Han Kangwoo, showing Jang Jaeyeol running while cheering, revealing that he was alone and that Han Kangwoo was not a real person.
In this scene, D.O showed an expression that was somewhere between a smile, and being seconds from crying. It seemed like he was smiling, but his eyes were glistening with tears, and his grief was felt through his small frown. It seemed as if he was feeling sorry for Jang Jaeyeol who had been cheering in happiness, for not realizing that he is a hallucination.
With the drama’s progression, D.O’s emotional acting is becoming more diverse. The words he utterrd with his deep voice were sadder than tears, and every glance he made was filled with the sincere emotions of Han Kangwoo. There was palpable emotion in his fingers, as he pulled off a piece of the puzzle, as if he knew he had to disappear soon, and his straight face as he gazed at the hyung, Jang Jaebeom, was also one of great sadness.
D.O’s acting, which got better as time passed, exploded to its peak on the 4th, during the broadcast of episode 14. In this episode, D.O successfully portrayed the moment of his character getting hit by aa car, and his tears falling when as he was passing out on the street. The scene where Han Kangwoo was covered in blood and was coughing with trembling hands, due to the symptoms of the Lou Gehrig’s disease, also made the viewers tear up.
As Jang Jaeyeol receives treatment for his illness, he slowly realizes the truth about Han Kang Woo, but according to a drama representative, they announced that Han Kangwoo still has a big role in the remaining episodes. As ‘It’s Okay, It’s Love’ is slowly coming to an end, with only a few episodes remaining, there are great expactations for D.O’s continuing portrayal of Han Kangwoo until the very end.”
