[160720] “Choco Bank,” Starring EXO’s Kai, Ranks First Amongst Web Dramas For 1st Half Of 2016

On July 20, Cons TV, a channel for web dramas, revealed their list of web dramas with the highest number of views for the first half of 2016.

Starring EXO’s Kai and actress Park Eun Bin, “Choco Bank” comfortably takes first place with close to 9.5 million views. Marking 7 million views more than IHQ’s “Nightmare Teacher,” “Choco Bank” is reportedly popular for its relatable themes of people in their 20s, their dreams, and how the real world reflects these things.

Second-place “Nightmare Teacher” is a romantic comedy that is lauded for being well-made and praised for its stellar cast that includes Uhm Ki Joon, Kim So Hyun, and BTOB’s Minhyuk.

In third place and fourth place are two returning web dramas, “The Cravings Season 2,” and “Oh Gu Sil Season 2.” Meanwhile, OnStyle’s “Beautiology 101” ranks fifth, while “Ready For Start” and “Tomorrow Boy” take sixth and seventh place respectively.

Cons TV comments, “The first half of 2016 was a time where the market for web dramas, which churned out many trending productions last year, finally stabilized and solidified its position with killer content material.”

EXO's Kai is ready to teach his generation about personal finance through his acting debut in the web drama Choco Bank.

Choco Bank is a six-episode web series airing through Naver TV Cast. Endorsed by some of Korea's most renowned financial regulators like the Financial Supervisory Service and the Financial Services Commission, Choco Bank is aimed to teach younger viewers about the importance of financial responsibility. Additionally, according to Korea Herald, the show is designed to inform audiences about financial products and services in Korea.

The series follows Kim Eun Haeng, played by EXO's Kai, who has been unemployed for five years. He lies to his mother about finding a job at a bank after becoming concerned that his family will start to worry about him. He runs into Ha Cho Co, the owner of a chocolate shop called "Choco Bank." Together the two begin to look into the financial market, experimenting in online insurance supermarkets and financial technology.

Choco Bank premiered officially at 10am KST on Monday, February 15. The show will continue to air online thru Friday.

Meanwhile, U.S. fans can catch Kai and the rest of EXO on their concert tour "EXOPLANET #2 - The EXO'luXion in North America." The group will play in Chicago on Friday and wrap up the tour in Newark Feb. 21.

Korean Web drama “Choco Bank,” featuring boy band EXO’s Kai and actress Park Eun-bin will kick off on 10 a.m. on Monday. 

Kai, 22, plays Kim Eun-haeng, who has been out of a job for five years. Fearing that his family would be deeply concerned about his unemployment, Kin lied to his mother saying that he works in a bank. While living in desperation, Kim runs into a woman, Ha Cho-co, played by Park Eun-bin, an owner of chocolate shop called “Choco Bank.” They begin to dabble in the financial market, including fintech products and online insurance supermarkets. 

The six-episode series, which will be aired on Naver TV Cast, aims to educate young viewers about financial services and products in Korea. It is endorsed by the nation’s financial watchdogs, including the Financial Services Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service. It will air online at 10 a.m. from Monday to Friday.

EXO's Kai is already well known for his impressive dancing abilities and his singing and rapping style in the group, but what does the popular boy band member have to say about acting?

On February 4, Kai shared his thoughts on the differences between singing and acting at the premier screening of Choco Bank, the web drama where he is making his acting debut. "Both singing and acting are difficult, but acting is a little harder," Kai shared according to Joy News 24. "It's important to enjoy yourself whether it's in acting, dancing, or being on stage, so I had the best time while filming."

Kai also made sure to thank all of the staff and actors for creating a warm and comfortable filming environment. "The filming atmosphere was relaxed so I was able to enjoy filming," Kai commented.

Additionally, Kai confessed that making his acting debut had him feeling nervous. "Sleeping the night before was difficult because I felt so tense. It was different and unfamiliar," Kai revealed. He then shared how he stuck hot packs and hand warmers all over his body before he attending filming. "Thanks to the hand warmers, I was able to spend six warm days filming," Kai concluded.

Kai's web drama Choco Bank is set to air in February.

On February 4 at 2PM (KST), the cast of 'Choco Bank' held a press conference and discussed the upcoming web drama.

When asked about his preparation for the role, EXO's Kai stated, "I couldn't sleep at all the night before the first shoot. First call to meet on set was at 6AM, but I was so nervous I ended up showing up to the set without having had a wink of sleep."

In regards to his first experience acting, he shared, "We shot for a total of 6 days; at first I felt awkward and out of place, but now I feel as if acting was a good memory and lesson."

Regarding his role as a an employee in the investment banking world, Kai explained, "I've been dancing since I was 8 years old so that's where my passion lies, but having had an experience acting as a banker, I think I would have enjoyed living such a life. I believe being a banker is a great occupation."

Kai will take on the role of the character 'Eunhaeng' (meaning Bank in Korean), a man with extensive knowledge of the investment and banking world.

The press conference for the web drama ‘Choco Bank’ (Scriptwriter Woo Soojin, Director Jung Junghwa) took place on the 4th of February at Lotte Cinemas, and featured Kai, Park Eunbin, Yeon Joonsuk, and Lee Chaewon.

During the press conference, Kai mentioned that, ‘The members couldn’t give me a lot of advice since they were busy, but encouraged me with ‘you can do it’ whenever possible’.

EXO′s Kai shared his thoughts on acting for the first time in web drama Choco Bank. 

Kai attented a production presentation for Choco Bank, held at the Lotte Cinema near Konkuk University in Seoul′s Gwangjin-gu on February 4. 

Kai said, "First, to be honest, I was really nervous. I couldn′t sleep. I think the call for the first filming was at 6 a.m., but I didn′t get a wink of sleep. We had our first filming, and at first it was difficult and unfamiliar."

He continued, "But the atmosphere on set was nice, so I really had fun filming. I will never forget those six days. Acting has left a good impression on me."

Choco Bank is centered on Eun Haeng (Kai) and Choco (Park Eun Bin), who set out to start a business, and how they use various financial services along the way.
