[181101] Chanyeol Shares How His Members And Fans Inspired His Self-Written Tracks On EXO’s New Album

EXO’s Chanyeol discussed two special tracks included in EXO’s new album.

On November 1, the group held a press conference to introduce their comeback with their fifth studio album “Don’t Mess Up My Tempo.”

The album consists of 11 tracks, Korean and Chinese versions of the title track “Tempo” as well as nine songs that are each centered around the members’ respective superpowers. Notably, two of the tracks — “Gravity” and “With You” — feature lyrics written by Chanyeol.

Chanyeol also participated in the composition of “With You,” which represents Baekhyun’s power of “light.” It is an R&B pop track with electrotrap elements.

“It might be because I enjoy listening to this genre regularly, so even the demo was easy on my ears,” Chanyeol shared. “I thought a lot about our fans while writing the lyrics, which are about how people become more similar to people they love. I often discover how the other members and I are becoming more alike as we spend many years together. I drew upon these experiences in the lyrics.”

As for the retro electro-pop track “Gravity,” D.O. first explained how it was centered around his power of “strength.”

Chanyeol expressed, “I participated with the mindset that I had to do my best. I thought a lot about how I should incorporate Kyung Soo [D.O.]’s superpower. I worked with LDN Noise, who I personally like and have worked several times with so I was able to produce lyrics comfortably and easily.”

“Don’t Mess Up My Tempo” will drop on November 2 at 6 p.m. KST.
