EXO’s Kai is known for his magnificent performances on stage, but his upcoming drama shows a different side of him. On the premiere of KBS 1TV’s new drama “Andante,” fans got to see Kai transformed into a high school student.

According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode brought in a national viewership average of 2.8 percent.

The first episode of “Andante” introduced viewers to Kai’s character, Si Kyung, a high school boy who spends his evenings playing games and even tricks his mother with forged report cards. Because of his family’s debt, Si Kyung has to leave Seoul for his grandmother’s house in the countryside.

After previously revealing stills of EXO member Kai as a rebellious high school student, fighting with his mom, interacting with his sister, and giving a glimpse 

at his family problems, KBS has now released another set of stills of Kai in the upcoming drama “Andante.”

In the drama, Kai plays the role of Si Kyung, a high school student from Seoul who transfers to the countryside, in which he experiences many new things. The released stills show Kai in a gray hoodie on his way home after buying some snacks. However, he spots gangsters in an alleyway and freezes on the spot. 

Despite wanting to walk away, he is unable to move and has fear in his eyes.

Spotting him, the gangsters stand in front of him. Kai looks down because he is scared to look at them in the eye, and hands them an envelope and the snacks he purchased.

A source from the drama said, “The scene of Kai’s encounter with the gangsters is a main event in the configuration of the beginning plot of the drama,” and also hinted that it will reveal one of the biggest reasons why Si Kyung decided to transfer from Seoul to the countryside.

The first episode of “Andante” will air on September 24 at 10:10 a.m. KST on KBS.

Not only is EXO’s Kai a talented K-pop idol, but he is also a hardworking actor on the set of KBS’s “Andante.”

The drama’s filming staff recently unveiled still cuts of Kai diligently rehearsing and meticulously monitoring his scenes. In one photo, Kai is going over his script and discussing various aspects of his character with producing director (PD) Park Kiho before the rehearsal. In another photo, Kai is checking out his scene through the monitor with camera director Kim Jae Hwan.

During the filming for “Andante,” which started in January, rather than trying to wrap up the filming quickly to escape the freezing weather, Kai would thoroughly discuss with the director to perfect his character and check his acting on the screen. One crew member complimented, “I would like to express my gratefulness to Kai and the rest of the cast for working hard, even if it was the middle of winter. Most of all, [I would like to thank] Kai who was a model to the other actors by always thinking about his character and working hard.”

“Andante” is a drama about a boy from the city named Si Kyung (played by Kai) who moves to a bizarre school in the countryside. Si Kyung is a foolhardy boy who loves games more than studying and goes to the PC room more often than school.

It looks like EXO’s Kai will be experiencing trouble on the first episode of KBS’s upcoming youth drama “Andante.”

On September 19, KBS1’s upcoming Sunday drama “Andante” held a press conference.

EXO’s Kai, Kim Jin Kyung, Baek Chul Min, Lee Ye Hyun, and Park Ki Ho PD were in attendance.

Kai was asked about his different images on and off stage as well as his character in the drama. He answered, “Thank you for saying that I’m the sexiest idol on stage. I will continue to show my sexy side often. [My character] Si Kyung is really innocent and boyish. I’m very different above the stage and below the stage. 

I show a cool image on stage but I’m very different off stage. That’s why I liked fusing that part of me with Si Kyung for a different image.”

On September 14, “Andante” released their character poster and descriptions for their four main leads, EXO’s Kai, Kim Jin Kyung, Baek Chul Min, and Lee Ye Hyun.

In the released poster, the four characters look energetic and fresh in front of a pastel-toned background. Although dressed in warmer clothes as the drama will be airing during the fall, their characters look as though they will be enjoying the sweet, warm-breezed romance of spring.

Behind each of them are music notes, which link back to the drama’s theme and title “Andante,” which means a moderately slow speed similar to a walking tempo, and also refer to the four characters’ differing personalities and charms.

EXO’s Kai will be playing the role of Sikyung, a game maniac. The treble clef behind him represents the new destiny that awaits him as he transfers to a strange school in the countryside as a result of him not studying, faking his grades, tricking his mom, and finding his life’s meaning in games.

Kim Jin Kyung is the mysterious and chic Kim Bom, who draws the attention of Sikyung. Although in the poster, she is smiling brightly, somewhere inside of her resides a loneliness. The bass clef behind her represents her life as school’s outsider, living a lonely secretive life.

Baek Chul Min will be playing the role of Garam, a model student with a sweet mature smile. Although on the exterior he is a upright and strict class president personality, in actuality he worries about Sikyung a lot. The eight note behind him represents his role as the hidden leader in the drama.

Lee Ye Hyun is Sikyung’s little sister, with whom she quarrels with whenever they meet. She brings out energy in the drama as her vibrant and bouncing personality revives everyone.
