[180606] EXO’s Suho Talks About Being Inspired By Kim Hwan Hee And What He Was Like In Middle School
EXO’s Suho and Kim Hwan Hee have so many good things to say about each other!
They recently took part in a pictorial and interview for High Cut magazine together. The two of them are co-stars in the upcoming film “Student A,” which is based on a popular web comic series of the same name.
When asked about the chemistry he had with the younger star, Suho shared, “On the outside, Hwan Hee just looks like a normal high school student, but the actress Hwan Hee that I saw is someone who is very inspiring. She portrayed the character of Mi Rae very well and it was clear what my character should be. I
believed that if I just reacted well, we would show good acting that wouldn’t disrupt the overall drama-like flow [of the film]. I think that’s why I paid closer attention to Hwan Hee’s speech and actions while acting.”
In turn, Kim Hwan Hee expressed, “I was really happy that I could act with him. I’m introverted so I’m not good at starting conversations with someone I just met.
However, he would approach me first. He would relieve the awkward atmosphere and crack jokes. There are so many moments that I’m thankful for.”
The young actress also discussed how she thinks acting has become more difficult since her breakout role in 2016 film “The Wailing.” She explained the film helped her discover a wider spectrum of emotions, but that in turn made it more difficult for her to decide how to portray certain scenes or lines. “That’s why I had to study my role more,” Kim Hwan Hee commented. “From now on, I think that it would be good to act as if I have experienced those emotions.”
As their film is mainly about middle schoolers, Suho also shareda little bit about what he was like in middle school. He revealed he was just like any other person, and that it was a period when “the wind seems to be blow quickly and water seems to flow in a frightening way.”
The EXO leader elaborated, “I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Then, I entered SM as a trainee in my third year of middle school, and I set my dreams on being a singer as well as acting. I actually think I was able to focus myself and my goals at a relatively faster pace compared to others.” He added, “I don’t think I was the kind of student that caused trouble, even in my teens.”
The rest of Suho and Kim Hwan Hee’s photo shoot and interview can be found in the 223rd edition of High Cut. Their film “Student A” will be released on June 20.

[180604] “Student A” Cast Discusses Film, EXO’s Suho On 11-Year Age Gap With Kim Hwan Hee
June 4, a press conference was held for the upcoming film “Student A,” starring EXO’s Suho, Kim Hwan Hee, Lee Jong Hyuk, Jung Da Bin, and more.
“Student A” is a film adaptation of a webtoon, and is about a female student named Mi Rae (Kim Hwan Hee) who loves gaming and is a talented writer, but has very low self-esteem. She was hurt by the first two friends she ever made, Baek Hab (Jung Da Bin) and Tae Yang (Yoo Jae Sang), but is able to begin healing with the help of Jae Hee (Suho).
Director Lee Kyung Seob said, “In the original webtoon, Mi Rae narrates her inner thoughts. The movie doesn’t do that, but I thought it was important for Mi Rae to reveal her thoughts and feelings. We tried to show fantasy in the beginning of the movie, and then the growth of [Mi Rae] in the second half. I hope that overall, the film isn’t seen as just the story of a girl’s growth.”
Suho spoke a bit about the age difference between him and Kim Hwan Hee, who, born in 2002, is 11 years his junior. He said, “I didn’t feel any generational gap.
Kim Hwan Hee is very mature and thoughtful, so communication was easy. Actually, I think it was even easier because I’m immature. There were some times when we were eating together that I wouldn’t understand what she was saying, but filming was a lot of fun.”
Revealing his thoughts after seeing the movie for the first time, he said, “I wonder if I shouldn’t have been more happy and upbeat [in the movie.] But I thought a lot about the reasons behind Jae Hee’s quirky actions. I didn’t think that his odd behavior or his funny expressions were without reason, so I worked hard to analyze those emotions.”
Closing, Director Lee Kyung Seob said, “Some characters are a bit different from the webtoon. Teachers aren’t portrayed as benevolent figures in this film. There are no proper adults. We wanted to highlight that aspect to be a better reflection of society.”
“Student A” premieres on June 20.

[180529] Film Director Reveals Why He Absolutely Wanted EXO’s Suho To Star In “Student A”
The director of upcoming film “Student A” had nothing but kind words to say about EXO’s Suho!
Based on a popular web comic, “Student A” is about introverted middle school student Mi Rae (Kim Hwan Hee), who has extremely low self-confidence. She loves to game and has a talent for writing, but finds it hard to connect with others. Through her budding friendships with Jae Hee (Suho), Baek Hab (Jung Da Bin), and Tae Yang (Yoo Jae Sang), Mi Rae learns about life as she matures.
In “Student A,” he will be playing Jae Hee, a warm character who counsels and empathizes with Mi Rae. While he may seem a little strange, he also suffers from unspoken pain.
Complimenting Suho on his continuous growth as an actor, director Lee Kyung Seob said, “He has a lot of ambition, and he is an actor who works that much harder. He especially has this image of being comforting with his wide eyes. That’s why I absolutely wanted to work with him.”
2018 has been a busy year for Suho so far. In addition to this upcoming film release, he has finished his run in “The Last Kiss” musical, is starring as the lead in currently airing “Rich Man, Poor Woman,” and is preparing for another musical, “The Man Who Laughs.” “Student A” will be released in South Korean theaters on June 20.

[180513] EXO’s Suho Reveals He Talked About Idols To Become Friends With Young Co-Star Kim Hwan Hee
EXO’s Suho, Kim Hwan Hee, Jung Da Bin, and Lee Jong Hyuk attended the press conference for the upcoming film “Student A” on May 14.
On working with Kim Hwan Hee, who is 11 years younger than him, Suho shared, “Hwan Hee likes idols a lot, so we talked about that to become closer.”
He continued, “Our common interest is idol groups, so I talked about them with her and tried to act cool by saying I could get her autographs whenever. I think that’s how we got closer and were able to film comfortably.”
When the MC asked Kim Hwan Hee who her favorite idol group is, Suho drew laughter as he commented, “It’s a sensitive subject.”Based on a webtoon of the same title, “Student A” is about a middle school student named Jang Mi Rae (played by Kim Hwan Hee) who is addicted to video games, is good at writing, and has low self-esteem.
