[171227] EXO Delivers Up Winter Album 'Universe'

Korean boy band EXO returned on Tuesday (Dec. 26) with the release of their fourth winter-themed EP, Universe.

The new album was released the day after Christmas, and contains three variations of the title song, including a Chinese-language rendition and an alternate CD version of “Universe” that features slightly altered lyrics from that of the single. Along with “Universe,” the boy band’s latest also features five other songs, including “Lights Out” with lyrics penned by Chen.

The single is a soft pop-rock tune propelled by a gentle piano melody and dramatic electric strings. With soaring, emotive vocals courtesy of the EXO members “Universe” is a power ballad that showcases the group’s strengths as they sing about the feelings that have them searching the universe for a former lover.

“Universe” was released alongside a coffee-themed music video that featured the members of EXO melancholically reflecting on the caffeinated beverage and performing different activities that serve as metaphors for the tightly-wound, messy emotions described in the lyrics. Decked out in winter-oriented, primarily brown and beige-hued, outfits — with an occasional ugly Christmas sweater thrown in for good measure — the video is a simple but refined visual accompaniment to the song.

[171226] EXO’s New Winter Album Tops iTunes Charts Around The World

Not long after topping realtime music charts in Korea, EXO’s special winter album has risen to the top of iTunes charts around the globe.

As of December 27 at 8 a.m. KST, their new album “Universe” hit No. 1 on the iTunes Album Charts of Argentina, Armenia, Brunei, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Finland, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam.

The album was also in the Top 10 of iTunes Album Charts in Brazil, Japan, Norway, Taiwan, Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Poland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, and the United States.

“Universe” was released on December 26 at 6 p.m. KST.

[171226] EXO Tops Realtime Charts With “Universe” Soon After Its Release

EXO placed first on four realtime charts with the release of “Universe.”

On December 26 at 6 p.m. KST, EXO released their annual winter special album “Universe,” featuring their title track of the same name. EXO immediately took first on many music sites following the release of their new song, solidifying their position as one of the most popular boy groups.

As of 7 p.m. KST on December 26, EXO’s “Universe” took No. 1 on four realtime charts: Melon, Genie, Bugs, and Olleh Music. Additionally, b-side track “Been Through” ranked at the top of the charts as well, and the rest of the tracks from EXO’s “Universe” album are also performing well.

“Universe” is a rock ballad that talks about how one would go to the ends of the universe to find a lover who’s become their entire world. It is co-composed by Shin Hyuk, who composed EXO’s “Growl,” and MRey, JJ Evans, and Jeff Lewis from Joombas. The lyrics were were written by Yoon Sarah, who also wrote the group’s “Miracles in December.”

EXO has released their annual winter special album for 2017!

On December 26 at 6 p.m. KST, the group’s newest album “Universe” dropped alongside a music video for their title track of the same name.

The track “Universe” is a rock ballad that talks about how one would go to the ends of the universe to find a lover who’s become their entire world.

Imagery of two people who are inescapably tied together echoes throughout the music video, in reference to the song’s lyrics.

The album includes both a Korean and Chinese version of the title track. It also features five other new tracks: “Lights Out,” a pop ballad with lyrics written by Chen; “Good Night,” a retro-sounding pop ballad; “Been Through,” a pop track that draws upon rock influences; “Stay,” a pop-soul track; and “Fall,” an R&B track.

[171226] EXO Drops New Batch Of Individual Teasers Ahead Of “Universe” Release

With just hours left until the release of EXO’s “Universe,” SM Entertainment has released a new batch of individual teaser photos! Check them out below:

With less than 18 hours left until they drop their latest winter special album, EXO has revealed a special group teaser!

In the video clip titled “Cafe Universe For You,” the group transforms into baristas once again, like they did in their individual teasers. At the very end, D.O.’s voice rings out, “Because it’s love.”

EXO’s album “Universe” will feature seven tracks, including a rock ballad of the same name as its title, a Chinese version of the title track, “Been Through,” “Stay,” “Fall,” “Good Night,” and “Lights Out,” a track with lyrics written by member Chen.

“Universe” is set to drop later today at 6 p.m. KST.

[171218] EXO drops more steaming photos of Chen and D.O.

EXO has dropped teaser image for D.O and Chen.

Just like the other members, they turned into baristas for their 'Cafe Universe', which is the title of their winter album. Their album will include 7 songs, including title track "Universe" in both Korean and Chinese, as well as "Lights Out", a song Chen wrote lyrics for.
